Terms of Engagement
Introduction
As professional communicators with extremely high work and ethical standards, we’re as committed as you are to getting top results in all work we do for you.
To get the best out of us, we need the best from you.
The following outlines important information about our terms of business and what you can expect when you engage McCarthy Media and Communications Ltd.
Contact
You will be dealing with Phil and/or Sarah as your point of contact. That means you'll always have a single point of reference. We reserve the right to engage other professional assistance should it be required.
Quotes
We'll send you a written summary by email, in effect, a mini project brief, before we start work so you can be confident we're clear about what needs to be achieved. This will include an estimated quote, based on expected costs and timelines. Our estimates assume clients are motivated about the project and will be supplying information and signing off various stages within the agreed timeframes. We undertake from the outset to inform you as soon as possible if an estimate is likely to be exceeded.
Ownership
Once you make payment you're the exclusive owner of the final work. However, all preparatory material remains the property of McCarthy Media and Communications Ltd. We pride ourselves on keeping clients informed throughout projects and welcome enquiries during the process.
Conflict of Interest
As we’re working with sensitive client information we won’t knowingly be working with your competition in similar matters during the course of your contract unless both you, and they, are aware of and happy with, that relationship.
Working arrangements
Generally speaking, each project has two equal components; it’s up to you to tell us your product specifications and set your market objectives and, of course, the budget. We'll provide creative and conceptual approaches, as well as management and production expertise if that's required.
Approvals
It’s up to you, the client, to check all material for accuracy and sign it off before the production phase. McCarthy Media and Communications Ltd accepts no responsibility for errors and omissions identified after all parties have signed off on a project. We work alongside our clients to ensure any issues are resolved prior to project sign-off.
Confidentiality
Honesty is the only policy in communication and public relations and we need you to be honest with us as your communication advisers. In return, we undertake to keep what we learn about your business confidential. That means we won't be telling anyone about your business without your express permission.
Charges
Our fees will be charged on an hourly rate as agreed – as per quotes. Our default hourly rate is $150 (+GST) per hour. In some situations, McCarthy Media and Communications Ltd may require a retainer or deposit to be paid before beginning work.
Travel
Out of Invercargill travel expenses are charged at half the hourly rate of the respective contract.
EG: If the hourly rate is $150 (+GST) - the travel rate is $75 (+GST) per hour. Please discuss this with Phil and Sarah if you have any queries.

Clients with queries about their account should contact McCarthy Media and Communications Ltd as soon as possible.
